A Kmart shopper has sparked an intense war of words after sharing her Mother’s Day hack using a popular new product.
Posting on a popular Facebook group, the Kmart fan revealed how she had purchased one of the store’s Cosmetics Coolers as a gift for her mother.
But instead of filling it with make-up and skincare products, the daughter packed the fridge with cans of beer and blocks of chocolate with beer.

“Happy Mother’s Day,” she wrote on the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook page.
Despite specifying that the cooler wasn’t intended to hold “perishable food items” in her post, the shopper’s gift idea prompted a warning from one Facebook user who was concerned about using it to store dairy products.
The woman went on to say that she’d been alarmed by reports of people using the Cosmetics Coolers to store baby milk and formula.
“Do not recommend these for food at all,” she wrote.
“Drinks and food should be at four degrees this only cools to 10 degrees. The reason cans are cold due to be cans being in a dark slightly cool box for a while like an Esky.
“Definitely wouldn’t recommend for yogurt etc and very bad to promote this for food storage. There are ones you can buy for food I recommend buying those.”
She lated added: “I’ve seen photos in groups of people using them for baby bottles, it made me cringe!”
One Facebook user took note of the warning, saying she was thinking of buying a cooler for this purpose.
“I actually didn’t know this and was considering getting one for my kid’s bottles at night, so I appreciate the comment,” she wrote.
But scores of Kmart fans were frustrated by the warning, given that chocolate and beer aren’t perishable.
“It’s chocolate and beer, not food. They’re both stored at room temperature and warehouses before purchase. Pipe down,” said one.
Another wrote: “She’s not putting steaks in it, people. Chill out, it’s a thoughtful gift, move on.”
Added a third: “It literally says on the box it’s for cosmetic products. I think chocolate and soft drink will survive. If you put yoghurt or milk in this that’s on you for not reading the product label.”
Said one more: “People acting like there’s chicken in it.”
Another responded: “Oh crikey, the food police are here.”
The Kmart shopper who shared the original hack defended her post, saying she hasn’t “promoted it for food storage”.
She added: “I would never put my mum at risk. Food stuffs that perish are a definite no-no.”
On the Kmart website, the store states that the cooler “can also hold six x 335ml drink cans.”
Others applauded the shopper’s gift, saying it was a “genius” way to store non-perishable foods.
“I bought one for my mum in a nursing home, she has little mini cans of drink and choccie in it for the hot weather,” said on. “She absolutely loves it.”
Said another: “Best present ever.”
A third added: “Hubby and I have one each beside the couch, his has six cans of rum and mine has six cans of coke. Always nice and cold.”
